Team Assault was a global esports and content organisation I co-founded in 2019 with a few close friends at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as a small idea among teenagers grew into a respected presence in the Fortnite and Valorant competitive scenes, with over 120,000 followers and partnerships with brands like Adidas, Secretlab, and Redragon.

My Role & What I Did

As co-founder and leader of the organisation, I took on multiple key roles:

  • Branding & Direction: Developed our visual identity, social presence, and overall brand voice.

  • Talent Recruitment: Recruited and managed players across Asia, North America, South America, and Oceania, many of whom were underserved or affected by the pandemic.

  • Partnerships: Successfully pitched and negotiated collaborations with major brands to secure gear, funding, and visibility.

  • Content Strategy: Oversaw our media production pipeline—highlights, tutorials, short-form videos, and livestreams—that helped us grow a dedicated community.

Focus Titles: Fortnite & Valorant

Fortnite

  • Signed players like Reducs and Veleron, who competed in events like the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS).

  • Produced high-impact content that connected competitive play with personality-driven storytelling.

Valorant

  • Formed a cross-regional team in 2022 that played in tournaments like the IGNITE Cup.

  • Created content that blended skill showcases with educational pieces to build brand depth.

Challenges I Faced

  • Building credibility in a saturated esports market as a young founder.

  • Managing a global team remotely, across time zones and language barriers.

  • Balancing academics with leadership, particularly during COVID-19 disruptions.

  • Lack of funding and connections, especially in the early stages.

How I Overcame Them

  • Maintained professional branding and communication.

  • Used Discord, Trello, and Notion to manage global operations.

  • Created media kits and pitch decks to secure sponsorships.

  • Adapted from failures like tournament losses and team turnover.

Skills and Values I Gained

  • Leadership: Learned how to lead teams, resolve conflicts, and motivate people in high-pressure settings.

  • Digital Strategy: Developed branding, growth tactics, and audience engagement skills.

  • Empathy & Impact: Understood the value of creating opportunities for youth during a difficult time.

  • Adaptability: Became comfortable working with uncertainty and quick pivots.

Things I Did Well

  • Scaled Team Assault from zero to 120,000+ followers.

  • Built and managed competitive rosters in Fortnite and Valorant.

  • Produced engaging digital content that resonated with global audiences.

  • Formed genuine, mutually beneficial brand partnerships.

  • Created a platform that gave youth real-world opportunities.

My Reflections

This role was one of the most impactful and formative experiences of my life. I discovered what it means to lead with both heart and strategy, and saw firsthand how digital tools and teamwork can drive real change. I’m proud of what Team Assault accomplished—not just competitively, but socially.

Our Legacy

Though Team Assault ceased operations in 2023, the organisation left behind:

  • A thriving digital community

  • Dozens of success stories from young players and creators

  • A blueprint for youth-led esports entrepreneurship.
