An initiative I led to create meaningful volunteer experiences that brought students closer to the community. I planned activities that encouraged kindness, care for the environment, and connections between young and old.

My Role and Responsibilities

  • Led Values in Action (VIA) projects at school

  • Organised a volunteer visit to Enabling Village to support people with disabilities

  • In Secondary 3, planned a visit to St Luke’s Nursing Home to interact with the elderly

  • In Secondary 4, worked with The Green Capsule to run a terrarium workshop at St Andrew’s Nursing Home

Impact and Outcomes

  • Built stronger bonds between students and seniors

  • Connected schools, small businesses, and care homes in creative ways

  • Encouraged green thinking through fun and meaningful crafts

Challenges I Faced

  • Juggling tasks with many different people and groups

  • Making sure the activities were simple and fun for seniors

  • Balancing schoolwork while leading these projects

How I Overcame Them

  • Held early planning meetings to stay on track

  • Adjusted craft materials to suit the needs of the elderly

  • Shared the workload by involving classmates

Skills and Values I Gained

  • Learned to be more caring and responsible

  • Gained experience in organising events and working with partners

  • Improved in problem-solving and teamwork

Things I Did Well

  • Brought different groups together to serve the community

  • Created memorable experiences for both students and seniors

  • Turned simple ideas into meaningful action

Reflections on the Role

Being VIA Chairman taught me that good leadership is about bringing people together for a cause. It showed me how small actions can bring joy and make a big difference.

Areas for Growth

  • Build long-term partnerships with more organisations

  • Include feedback sessions after each event

  • Use digital tools to share and grow the impact of future projects
